Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply for a commission as a notary public in the state of Washington, you must meet the following criteria:

 

  • Be at least eighteen years of age;
  • Be a citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States;
  • Be a resident of or have a place of employment or practice in the state of Washington;
  • Be able to read and write English; and
  • Not be disqualified to receive a commission under RCW 42.45.210.
